WHO WE ARE
Our Roots
Take a Tampon was founded in 2021 by Kotomi Yokokura, a student at the University of Kentucky. Kotomi knew something needed to change after being caught without a menstrual hygiene product minutes before a lecture, only to be met by a bathroom void of products. Take a Tampon began as a couple of baskets filled with donated menstrual hygiene products around the University of Kentucky.
As the organization grew, more baskets appeared around campus and the group began to advocate for policy change at a state level. In 2022, Take a Tampon contacted and met with Kentucky state legislators to urge for a bill providing free menstrual products in schools.
